Love Letter is a 2 volume collection of original music composed over the last 50 years, and the title of a song inspired by Gilda Radner, a bright star of Saturday Night Live’s first generation. Over the years I have not been a methodical writer, and didn't consider myself a songwriter. The songs appeared in fits and starts. A few were released on CDs, while the majority languished in file cabinets, on lead sheets, or reels of tape. But in looking back as many artists did during the pandemic, I realized I had quite a collection of tunes. Love Letter, the first 2 volume collection represents the first 24 of 47 tunes I plan to record. The styles range from Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova, Contemporary Vocal Jazz, Funk, Swing and and Pop tunes both old style and new. The Vinyl Sounds Great! I hope you enjoy!

Who's Gonna Buy Your Drinks Tonight? Who’s gonna feed your appetite? Who’s gonna miss you in the morning light? And Who's Gonna Buy Your Drinks Tonight? Who’s gonna call you on the phone? Who’s gonna wonder why you’re not at home? Who’s gonna leave a message at the tone? And who’s gonna call you on the phone? There’s one born ev’ry minute Bound to play your game. They think there’s something in it, But it always ends the same Who’s gonna hold you while you look around? Who’s heart is breaking while you paint the town? Who’s gonna wish that they had seen the light? And Who's Gonna Buy Your Drinks Tonight?

You like kissing’ me an’ I like kissing’ you Knock Wood! So Far So Good Just can’t get enough of ev’rything you do Knock Wood! So Far So Good This romance we’ve begun Is anything but boring We’re havin’ so much fun I even like your snoring! Honey, how I feel It’s easy to be true Knock Wood! So Far So Good

Waltz Noir 05:33
Danger in your glance, do you want to dance? Shadows hide the scar, now it’s begun Waltz Noir Seems I know the face, name I couldn’t place Whispers in the bar, too late to run Waltz Noir Would you deceive? Should I believe That story so old, Guess that I still, want to be told.. . Will you fade away, in the light of day? Just can’t think that far, Are you the one? Waltz Noir

Love Letter 04:16
Funny little lady, grown up little clown, I sure like the way you wear your sweater I hope that I’m there when love comes around ‘Cause Darlin’, I know love’s much better. Funny little brown eyes, one foot out the door, There’s somethin’ there I wish you’d show me. I know you lost someone who’s not there anymore, But Baby, you don’t have to be lonely. They took you to the circus and bought your toy balloon, You lost it and it broke your heart. But like the best of clowns in any tragedy, You were only playin’ your part. Funny little lady, wistful little smile, I sure hope that you read this letter. ‘Cause there’s laughter through the tears, And love behind the fears, and Darlin, I know Love’s much better.

Why does the grass look greener? Why does it look so good? Why can’t I get excited About the things I should? Chorus You Always Want the Thang You Can't Have You Always Want the Thang You Can't Have Why ain’t my satisfaction Here in my neighborhood? Why do I make my fire,With somebody else’s wood? Chorus Why can’t I keep it simple? Why can’t I let things be? Why did I have to discover The best thing in life ain’t free? Chorus

Barrelhouse 02:49
Fingers start to poppin’, Feet start beatin’ time, Swinging’ with the rhythm, Singing’ with the rhyme. Everybody dancin’, Stomping’ on the floor, Love that locomotion, crowd cries out for more. Chorus Come on Mama, Barrelhouse (All Night Long) If it feels this good it can’t be wrong Come on Mama, Barrelhouse (All Night Long) Eighth notes on the hi hat, Back beat on the snare, Cut that conversation, Get up off the chair Rollin’ with the left hand, Tumblin’ with the right, Smokin’ on the bandstand, Burn it down tonight. Chorus (repeat) Toes are gettin’ tired, Clothes are gettin’ wet, Got to keep on dancin’, Just can’t quit it yet. Mama.Mama, Mama, Let your jazz come down, Shake it, Baby, Shake it,Shake it to the ground. Repeat Chorus

Fireman George, Baby Dodds, And even Mister Jelly Roll Can recommend without a doubt A barber with a lotta soul. He’s known more for his music Than he is for cuttin’ hair. He’s got a special talent Accordin’ to the folks down there. When Buddy blows that silver horn he makes the pretty girls say “Please!” The preacher lays his bible down, The crap shooters get off their knees. Chorus He Makes the Blues Come Out of His Horn He hits a low-down tone And the jazz is born. Mister Bolden’s music Tells a tale you won’t forget Singin’ the blues, Singin’ on his old cornet. You know the ev’nin’ breeze Would carry his tune. All of the N’Awlins swells They’ll be arrivin’ soon. With a Tee-Na-Na, and a Tee- Na- Nay, Honey, sure as you’re born, When Buddy Bolden makes the blues come out of his horn.

Front Porch Rockin', Shadows fade the light, Thoughts go trailin’, To remember when. Voices talkin’, Stars winking’ in the night, Alleys echo, To where the boy has been. Oh Reverie! Telephone don’t ring, Oh used to be, That don’t mean a thing. Front Porch Rockin', Feeling’ misery, My heart is breakin’, It’s the same old friend. Can I make it, Minus all the pain, And awaken, To be myself again?

There was a man from Harlem, who embodied livin’ large He got that joint to jumpin’, whenever he took charge His name was Thomas Waller, known to all as Fats. His presence was pure music, from his derby to his spats. He partied, played, sang, and wrote, for thirty-nine full years. His j’oie d’vive in ev’ry note, brought smiles from ear to ear. His talent was tremendous, not petit his treasure. We need some Fats to send us, when playin’ for our pleasure. Chorus Are You Fats Enough? Your ticklin’ can’t be thin, Stride those tenths to pay the rent, Let the joy begin! Are You Fats Enough? Has you got that touch of Waller? It’s essential, your credential, To make them ivories holler! If you want to pull the freight, Gotta have some weight. All the rest is Lawerence Welk,“Sweet essence of buttermilk!” Are You Fats Enough?Shake that Big Old Thing! It’s On! it’s On! Latch On! I’m Gone! Make that rhythm swing.

On a Summer Night, I saw your silhouette Mem’ries of your smile, A smile I can’t forget. On a Summer Night, The stars recalled the past The night we held a dream,A dream that wouldn’t last. In a love song long ago, You cuddled close to me When the sky turned indigo, And our hearts were on a spree. Got a big old moon, It’s gonna be all right I’ll hold your memory, On a Summer Night.
21.
A little Late Night Swing, after we leave the dance, A little Late Night Swing, to give love a chance. A little Late Night Swing, we gonna mellow down, An’ do our rhythm thing, with no one else around. Give us some shadows deep, and a moon that’s full, And we’ll get in the groove. ‘Cause when the shadows creep, and the moon is full We know just what to do. A little Late Night Swing, we’ll take our nighttime chance, To make love the thing, And find some sweet romance.
22.
Love . . .Love ain’t . .Love ain’t nothin’, Love Ain't Nothin' but the Blues Love . . .Love ain’t . .Love ain’t nothin’, Love ain’t nothin’ but bad news. Love’s a hypnotizing’ song, A song that’s always ending’ much too soon. But Honey, if you prove me wrong I’d be the lucky one to change my tune. Until then I’ll say, Love . . .Love ain’t . .Love ain’t nothin’, Love Ain't Nothin' but the Blues.
23.
Rhythm 03:15
Rhythm, When you swing it, Rhythm, Rock and roll, Rhythm, Got to sing it, That’s the stuff that sends my soul. Rhythm, Body action, Rhythm, Feel so fine, Rhythm, Groove attraction, Elgin movements right on time. It’s more than just a mellow motion, More like a Krupa kinda attitude. Your body’s beggin’ to begin to boppin’, Won’t be long before you find the heat is in the hoppin’. Got a beat that you can dance to, Got a groove to get you in the isle, Here in your heart is where you hear the drummer drummin’, rhythm guaranteed to bring a smile. Rhythm, Midnight hour, Rhythm, Break-a day, Rhythm, Riff in flower, Bound to blow your blues away. Rhythm, Shout and feel it, Rhythm, All around, Rhythm, Jump and squeal it that’s the way to go to town.
24.
I got a call the other day, a dear old friend of mine, Was feelin’ sad and gettin’ mad, because the sun won’t shine. The blues we feel we can’t repeal, You know that it’s a crime, And until that day they go away, It's Gonna Be a Long, Long Time, I mean, It's Gonna Be a Long, Long Time.
